Portuguese consumers had no single, clean, data-driven resource to understand how food prices had changed over time or to compare their weekly shopping basket across supermarkets. Existing comparators showed only today's prices with no historical context, and no tool existed to calculate a user's personal inflation rate based on their actual consumption habits.
Inflação no Prato was built as a full-stack data platform ingesting daily price data from 6 supermarket websites and 30 years of historical indices from Eurostat and INE. Three interactive tools were built on top of this data layer: the Cabaz Inteligente (smart basket calculator), the Inflação Pessoal (personal inflation rate calculator), and the Máquina do Tempo (price time machine back to 1996). A data journalism section provides open access to full historical datasets and methodology documentation for researchers, journalists, and economists.

Three free tools live: smart basket calculator, personal inflation calculator, and price time machine. Open data section for journalists and researchers. Organic SEO targeting food inflation and supermarket comparison queries in Portugal.
